Sehr lesenswert。 Allerdings kann ich mit der Scham der eigenen Herkunft wenig anfangen und war auch von Eribons Einschätzungen von was Marxismus ist oder macht und was nicht in dessen Oberflächlichkeit etwas befremdet。 Freilich weiß ich aber auch zu wenig über Frankreich und die dortigen 68er， um alle Bemerkungen ganz einzuordnen。

Il arrive de temps en temps qu’un chercheur en sciences humaines se penche sur son propre parcours。 C’est évidemment très difficile puisque la subjectivité autobiographique， qui est irréductible， dialogue avec l’esprit d’analyse du chercheur。 C'est particulièrement vrai dans le cas de la sociologie， discipline où s'est illustré Didier Eribon， et dont l'une des spécialités est de doucher l'illusion individuelle d'être un sujet parfaitement autonome en chacune de ses décisions en montrant à quel p Il arrive de temps en temps qu’un chercheur en sciences humaines se penche sur son propre parcours。 C’est évidemment très difficile puisque la subjectivité autobiographique， qui est irréductible， dialogue avec l’esprit d’analyse du chercheur。 C'est particulièrement vrai dans le cas de la sociologie， discipline où s'est illustré Didier Eribon， et dont l'une des spécialités est de doucher l'illusion individuelle d'être un sujet parfaitement autonome en chacune de ses décisions en montrant à quel point celles-ci sont déterminées par des structures sociales。 Quand c’est réussi， cela donne des livres qui font date : on peut penser à la façon dont Pierre-Jakez Helias avait pris le monde de son enfance comme objet d’ethnologie dans « Le Cheval d’orgueil »。 Pour sa part， Didier Eribon relit dans « Retour à Reims » son appartenance originelle， qu’il a longtemps travaillé à masquer， à la classe ouvrière ; de semblables motivations autobiographiques se retrouvaient également derrière ses travaux précédents sur l’homosexualité。 J’ai conscience que mon parallèle entre Helias et Eribon est un peu curieux， mais tous deux ont en commun de décrire leur parcours grâce à une double appartenance sociale （province/Paris， prolétariat ou paysannerie/bourgeoisie， et dans le cas d’Helias langue bretonne/langue française） pleinement vécue pour l’un， reconquise pour l’autre。 La force d’Eribon， qui se trouve dans cette deuxième position， plus difficile， est d’avoir conscience que le match entre analyse et subjectivité se joue de toute manière， quand bien même on pourrait se croire non directement concerné par le sujet qu’on traite。 À ce sujet les reproches cinglants qu’il fait à Raymond Aron， dont il attribue le rejet de la notion marxiste de classe sociale à sa propre et inconsciente identification à la bourgeoisie dominante， sont éclairants。Le point de départ du livre — dans sa genèse sinon dans son déroulement — est l’entrée du père de l’auteur， atteint de la maladie d’Alzheimer， dans une clinique， puis sa mort。 Didier Eribon， qui n’entretenait plus avec sa famille que des rapports formels et lointains， a découvert à cette occasion le pavillon de banlieue que ses parents avaient fini par habiter après que la famille se fut longtemps entassée dans des appartements minuscules， a eu avec sa mère de longues conversations， s’est trouvé ébranlé par la mort de ce père qui pour lui n’était plus， croyait-il， qu’un étranger。 Il a vu et regardé à nouveau ce monde dont il s’était coupé pour devenir un bel exemple d’intellectuel parisien。« Retour à Reims » explore d’une part cet univers ouvrier de province， dans le concret de ses conditions de vie et de ses aspirations （conjugalité précoce， renonciation aux études longues…） ; le livre est célèbre pour avoir esquissé un tableau idéologique de cette classe sociale， prise dès l’origine dans d’apparentes contradictions （l’adhésion， formelle ou intellectuelle， au Parti communiste n’étant pas incompatible avec le maintien d’une pratique catholique） et qui， du point de vue électoral， est passée de la gauche à l’abstention ou à l’extrême droite， et ce dans la famille même de l’auteur。 L’autre sujet du livre， symétriquement， c’est le mécanisme du rejet par Eribon de cette identité ouvrière et provinciale， lié au désir de trouver un milieu où vivre son homosexualité loin， ou du moins plus loin， des insultes， brimades et violences。 Il retrace rapidement， à cette occasion， son parcours intellectuel et académique， qui n’a pas été sans heurts même s’il est aujourd’hui reconnu comme un sociologue de premier plan : les plafonds de verre n’ont pas magiquement disparu sur son passage。 Il revendique ainsi une certaine fidélité à mai 1968 face à ce qu’il décrit comme le phagocytage de la gauche française par la pensée néoconservatrice。Dans cet essai l'auteur fait se répondre avec fluidité les souvenirs et les analyses， et par conséquent la langue du quotidien et les notions abstraites， dans un style énergique。 J’en connaissais quelque peu le contenu pour en avoir découvert il y a quelques années une adaptation au théâtre （pas celle d’Ostermeier mais celle， douce et humble， de Laurent Hatat）。 En le lisant je n’ai donc pas été sidéré par le tableau social qui est dressé ; j’ai plutôt été sensible à la revendication d’une cohérence théorique et politique。 Et l’entretien avec Edouard Louis qui tient lieu de préface souligne une autre vertu de ce livre， pour ceux dont l’histoire rencontre celle de Didier Eribon， ou qui ont souffert d’autres discriminations ou d’autres relégations sociales — il cite souvent des écrits de Noirs américains où il rencontre l’écho de ses propres difficultés — la vertu d’éclairer des parcours de vie et d’ouvrir ainsi des perspectives à ses lecteurs。 。。。more

I love this book with all my heart。 The personal account of an intelligent being creating a space for himself in an unaccepting world intertwined with a practical sociological and philosophical analysis。 While the book deals with social problems relating to class and sexuality， it does not， however， problematize other important issues such as race， gender and male dominated academia - legitimately so， considering this is drawn from the narrow perspective of the personal experience。

Retorno a Reims é a autobiografia/autoanálise de Didier Eribon， um conhecido sociólogo francês que trata da homossexualidade。 Em seu texto， ele procura revisitar as condições psíquicas e sociológicas de seu passado - sua infância， adolescência， juventude e história de sua família - para compreender e （re） interpretar os processos que hoje o constituem como um pesquisador intelectual gay - branco e parisiense。 O livro tem um ritmo pouco coeso em certos momentos e o fluxo de leitura desse percurso Retorno a Reims é a autobiografia/autoanálise de Didier Eribon， um conhecido sociólogo francês que trata da homossexualidade。 Em seu texto， ele procura revisitar as condições psíquicas e sociológicas de seu passado - sua infância， adolescência， juventude e história de sua família - para compreender e （re） interpretar os processos que hoje o constituem como um pesquisador intelectual gay - branco e parisiense。 O livro tem um ritmo pouco coeso em certos momentos e o fluxo de leitura desse percurso me incomoda。 Algumas análises， nesse sentido， se estendem ou se diluem demais， sem motivo tão aparente， o que não invalida， no entanto， as potências que Didier elabora e nos oferece。 Em suma， também proporciona uma síntese sociológica do problema da constituição das identidades marcadas pela experiência subjetiva de tornar-se algo。 Não é preciso dizer que a maior parte das passagens sobre homossexualidade me tocam profundamente， ainda que falem de experiências nem sempre próximas ou similares às minhas。 De maneira geral， acho que é uma outra experiência de debate identitário e das questões （inter）subjetivas que a este interessam。 Recomendo a travessia - ou os retornos。 。。。more

I had the chance of hearing Eribon present some of his writing on insult and gayness in the early 2000s， and it was nice to come back to this text and see what he has written since。 This is a memoir that also works as an informal sociological analysis of Eribon's class background and his movement from working class life to bourgeois academic life （at the same moment that he becomes increasingly aware and public about his sexuality）。 Eribon interweaves anecdotes about his relationship to his pare I had the chance of hearing Eribon present some of his writing on insult and gayness in the early 2000s， and it was nice to come back to this text and see what he has written since。 This is a memoir that also works as an informal sociological analysis of Eribon's class background and his movement from working class life to bourgeois academic life （at the same moment that he becomes increasingly aware and public about his sexuality）。 Eribon interweaves anecdotes about his relationship to his parents and siblings， reflections on the turn to the far right among formerly communist French workers， and questions about why he was drawn to academic work on sociology， sexuality， Bourdieu， and Foucault。 What results is a careful and measured consideration of one's life through deployment of academic approaches and concepts， with a level of self-questioning that never seems self-involved or overindulgent。 I suspect that it would be an interest text to teach （perhaps early graduate students） because of the way that interweaves personal anecdote with sophisticated theories of class， sexuality， and the social。 。。。more
